Citizens have gathered around the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The violent adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will not present a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled state commemorations until mid-October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was held across the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' representatives convened in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to examine the terms of the agreement.

A high-ranking Palestinian official involved in the discussions indicated that an evening round of negotiations started at evening in Egypt.

The representative said the day's discussions finished without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not recommence hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "challenging and have still not achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that mediators are making efforts to close the disparities between the two sides.

Essential Points in Discussions

  • A lasting truce
  • The trade of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies provision
  • Post-war management of the region

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, young a woman - whose sibling endured the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were lost their lives and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "Nowhere seems like home anymore and until every captive come back not a single person will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can relax again. Then we can start to heal," she concluded.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to demonstrate their solidarity for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel states nearly fifty stay in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Activist Atalia Regev remarked: "We must do every compromise needed for the hostages to return. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the conflict to finish in return for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of the gathering, grieving people came together to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and explosions could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the heavy Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the west side district, area and zone areas and in the east side area of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"As the night comes, the fear appears with it," relocated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, especially my youngest child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we check the reports to see developments. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the conflict will resume to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had accepted the corpses of several people by the midday, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the south region of Khan Younis reported additional victims had been brought there. A person was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get assistance to the south, health workers stated.

The region's health ministry reported 25 of the {territ
