JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Strives to Fix the Anime's Biggest Debate

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original feature. Instead, the latest film from the Jujutsu Kaisen action franchise serves as a collection of the anime's second season combined with the first two episodes of its next season, which launches the Culling Games storyline from the original manga. This makes Execution, which has been given a new trailer, the quickest way to view the start of the forthcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The film debuts in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the anime series and is charged by jujutsu higher-ups to take down his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight occurs for the first time on the silver screen, and if the animation team at Mappa have a treat as the two-part Thunderclap episodes in store for fans this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the gift that everyone has hoped for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap episodes" from season two is often hailed as one of the greatest sequences in anime history, notwithstanding the major issues in the previous year when the installments originally aired. It was reported that the animation team were enduring harsh deadlines to the extent, and the final version that aired at the time was not fully polished and supposedly not what the artists initially intended.

The Legendary Fight

The scene involves a long-awaited battle between two strong jujutsu users, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It includes experimental animation, superb cinematography, and thrilling combat. A subsequent physical media version gave the animators a chance to include extra footage to flesh out the fight. So it seemed possible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, viewing the recent teaser, it's hard to tell if that battle has received any additional treatment. It'd be a letdown if it didn't, because a sequence that grand has to be experienced on the largest display with the finest quality available.

Season Two's Achievement

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become 2024's anime of the year, and when the Thunderclap episodes were aired consecutively, it was the subject of discussion for weeks in the anime community. Audiences had heard of the production challenges, which made them admire what they saw even more. People anxiously checked to see if the disc version, released on March 18, would include new footage to the battle or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were overjoyed to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, enhanced animation, and revised visual style.

The Film's Potential

But the home video can only refine what has already been presented in the television version, whereas the film has the chance to do the sequence justice with more adjustments and new animations entirely.

A Masterpiece

At present, these two episodes act as the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by Mappa, notably because of the controversy they underwent at the time. It's captured the interest of viewers all over the globe, and the Culling Games is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of the following year. If the studio wants to kick off the year perfectly, revisit the anime's greatest sequence once again in theaters with the finest version we've seen yet.
