Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of claiming a top-three finish for the fourth time in five World Cup races. The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result. Impressive Performance in the French Alps Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place. "I was slightly lacking the right line on the initial jump," Vonn said. "After that, I skied well. I'm happy with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Injury Vonn ended her career in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a major knee surgery. With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely. She has one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "When we get to Cortina, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed. Aiming for Further Glory Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has won over a career spanning two decades. She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup campaign features a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
